Monday Morning Madness

Meet Missie! Young, single, and sassy, Missie works hard to play harder. Weekdays you'll find her working as the day manager for a small apartment complex, and on the weekends she's everyone's favorite bartender. Being single and working long hours affords her the simple luxuries. Tanning, weekly massages and mani/pedis, Missie loves feeling pampered and beautiful. She's all girl, but amazingly most of her friends are men. She rarely has 'relationships' but when she does they end amicably and nearly all her exes are her friends, except for one. She has a few girlfriends, Gina being her closest and longest standing partner in crime. Working downtown in one of the area's most popular bars has allowed her to meet some pretty interesting people and make a lot of connections. She never goes anywhere that she doesn't know someone. It's how she scored such a great apartment at low rent. So settle in and get to know her!

Monday morning came way to early considering she'd let Mark sweet talk her into working Sunday night. Missie was the only bartender who could also pull management duty. In order for Mark to get someone else to cover, he'd have to explain that his regular bartender needed the night off so she could go out on a date with him.

Missie had been working at McHale's for nearly five years. She'd seen Mark go through numerous young waitresses and bartenders, and was always amazed that no one else ever picked up on it. She loved Mark like an annoying uncle. She tolerated his crap, and covered for his ass when he pulled this kind of shit, but in return he was always there when her car broke down, or when her washer was broken. It was a very familial relationship they had, and it was nice since Missie's own family lived so far away.

Missie rolled over to hit the snooze button and saw the clock flashing 8:30.

"Shit!" She knocked the clock over jumping out of bed. She was supposed to open the office at nine o'clock and the property owner was coming out for a visit today. She quickly showered and combed mousse through her shoulder length brown hair. Throwing on a pair of black pants and a white button down she grabbed her make-up and jewelry bags.

She made it to the office with five minutes to spare so she started the coffee pot and dashed into the bathroom to fix her face. She pulled a couple of necklaces from the jewelry bag and fished out her favorite dangly earrings.

She was pulling the top half of her hair up into a claw when she heard the lobby door open. Tossing her bags beneath the sink she rushed out to greet Mr. Houseton. Only the backside standing in her office doorway definitely did not belong to Mr. Houseton.

"Can I help you?" Missie asked. The tight round backside turned around, revealing the rest of a wet dream she hadn't had yet. Then he smiled, good god.

"Are you Missie? I called last week." She tried to think of something witty to say but only managed to smile and nod. She was still ogling, but she didn't really care.

"I was hoping to look at one of the available units?" She remembered him now. Catching a glimpse of the Mercedes pulling into the parking lot, she figured that Mr. Houseton wouldn't want her to put off a potential tenant.

"Sure. If you could have a seat for just a few minutes, I'll get some keys and we'll head right out." He grinned again, causing her imagination to do all kinds of dirty things to him.

Mr. Houseton came in and spoke to the hottie before coming into her office. She quickly explained that this was a potential renter and he wanted to see the property. She expected him to rush her out the door, what she didn't expect was for him to insist on showing him around himself.

"Oh, but I really don't mind. I know you had things to see to today." Missie stammered.

"It'll be good for me." he held out a hand for the keys. "I can check the property out while I'm showing him around and I'll handle paperwork this afternoon."

Missie sighed, giving him the keys to the display units. She watched as Mr. Houseton escorted the hottie out and hopped into the golf cart. He glanced back to smile and wave at Missie, which she supposed was better than nothing.

She waved back and settled in behind her desk. At least now she had time to collect herself before meeting with the owner to go over property concerns and competition.

She busied herself and straightened the office. The phone didn't ring too much and before long Mr. Houseton and the eye candy were back. When they came in the lobby the balding older man motioned to the couch. Mr. Dimples sat down and her boss came into her office.

"Mr. Greene needs to fill out a credit application. He likes the one bedroom unit and needs a place for next month." Missie handed him a clipboard with an application and pulled up her spreadsheet of available units.

Forty-five minutes later they'd found a unit and scheduled a move-in date. The hottie's name was Joshua Greene, his job with a car manufacturing company was moving him here next month. He had a good credit score and good recommendations from his previous landlord. He would be living alone, no pets, and he didn't need a storage unit.

No baggage, Missie thought. She'd have to scour her employment agreement to see if fraternizing with the residents was grounds for termination. Joshua flashed her another smile and shook her hand before he left. She'd have liked to flirt it up a little more, but Mr. Houseton was across the hall with the door open.

"I'll see you soon." Joshua said as he left.

"Looking forward to it!" Missie waved. Sighing she went back into her office and pulled out her cell phone. She was going to need a girl's lunch today. She texted Gina before going in to take last months maintenance and housing reports to Mr. Houseton.

*~*

"What are you wearing?" Gina asked, laughing.

"Shut up." Missie shoved her sunglasses back onto her head and lifted two fingers to the too-perky hostess.

"Rough morning?" The red-head asked. Gina put her Chanel sunglasses in their case and dropped them into her over-sized Coach bag. Missie just rolled her eyes and followed the hostess to a booth.

"It certainly started that way, hence the clothes." She ordered diet soda and asked for a basket of bread. Gina ordered a cocktail and waved a hand at Missie's raised eyebrow.

"I've got the afternoon off to get my hair done, don't look at me that way." Missie laughed, secretly wishing she could sneak a drink herself. She probably would if the man who signed her paycheck weren't going to be in the office all day.

The two ordered and swapped weekend stories. Gina had been out of town for a wedding and of course Missie had pulled an extra shift so they hadn't had a chance to talk. There was of course the unspoken question that hung between them, but Missie tried to ignore it.

"He didn't bring a date." Gina stated when the food came. Missie stabbed a fork into her potato and shrugged.

"I don't care." She lied.

The wedding Gina had gone to was for her cousin, Amanda. Amanda's new husband was cousin's with Missie's ex. The only ex that Missie had not stayed in touch with. The only ex that had broken her heart.

"I know you don't. I'm just sayin'." Gina took a bite of her burger and changed the subject. "I was thinking about going shopping at the outlets Saturday, wanna go?"

"Doubt it," Missie said. "I think I'm working a double at McHale's."

"You work to much." Gina pointed at her with a fork, "You aren't going to meet any stable men working at that bar. Take a night off and come out with me!"

"Now why on earth would I want to meet a stable man?" Missie winked. "The sex is so much better when they're irresponsible."

Gina just laughed and the two finished with lunch before heading off to work and the salon.
